VT Book Arts Guild “MailB.A.G.” December 2009

Next Meeting:

Wednesday January 6, 2010, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

$5 voluntary contribution to Burlington City Arts for their education programs. (Remember, if you write a check, it can be evidence for a tax deductible contribution.)

Program: Sharing and Support

Bring book arts projects, either in process or completed, challenges, questions, resources (books, magazines, web sites, blogs.), favorite tools, sources of innovation, or anything else that inspires or connects you to the Book Arts. Perhaps you have a project begun at a meeting or in a class or workshop (Jane Davies? Amy Lapidow?) that you could share.

You are also invited to come with proposals for programs: speakers, projects, field trips etc. that you would like to see happen or that you would like to do yourself! This popular annual program will help us celebrate our Fifth Anniversary! So come and share and be ready to go away with a wealth of new creative energy.

Reflection on the December meeting:

Ahh, it only gets better!  We had a large turn-out for our Holiday Pot-luck Supper, Swap & Sale…which meant a large turn-out of marvelous food for the buffet!  Then we mixed and mingled, sharing and swapping and buying as we caught up on the news with members we haven’t seen for awhile.  It was a good time.

Planning Ahead

Exhibit in May:
The Guild has been invited to exhibit in a new gallery in May 2010, so start your creative endeavors while details are being worked out. Watch for news in a future “MailB.A.G.”!

February Meeting:
Nancy Stone will share her creative life as a book artist who also paints and teaches.

I am teaching the “Personal Field Journal” class on Saturday, January 9th (snow date January 10th) from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Three spaces are available for that class. The personal field journal is a wonderful structure that allows for inclusion of small (flattish) objects you bring, with windows, pull-outs, doors that open, etc. $85 includes lunch, materials & printed instructions.

NOTE: If you’re from out of town and need a place to stay overnight, do check out Schoolhouse Number 10! Make a weekend of it with your family or friends.

We have new, interesting workshops on the schedule as well as some old favorites.

Instructors include Eric Alstrom, Martin Antonetti, Julie Chen, Peter Geraty, Daniel Kelm, Art Larson, Nancy Leavitt, Linda Lembke, Julia Miller, Suzanne Moore, Shawn Sheehy, and Pamela Spitzmueller.

I’d also like to draw your attention to our July concentration of workshops. We are arranging to offer you–during July–the option of housing, breakfast and dinner at Williston Northampton School, just two blocks from the studio. This fine prep school has offered us use of a new residential building that was constructed as an addition to a Victorian home. We expect this to be a good value. Wel know the rates soon, so please contact us if you are interested.
